My Story
When my daughter went off to college in 2012, I found I had a lot more time on my hands. I decided to volunteer as a reading tutor at Alameda Reads, my city’s adult literacy program. I was so inspired by the dedication and passion of both the staff and learners there that I decided to continue my own education. After earning an MA in English and Creative Writing, I was offered a position as a contract teacher there. What was a volunteer position that helped me transition into a new phase of life has turned into a second career. I am forever grateful.
